Hi, and welcome to Kindred Courage (formerly Backroad Family). I love a good name story and we are excited to share this one with you. We’ve had epic adventures since launching our travel blog, Backroad Family. Early highlights (before kids) included.
Visiting the land of chili-squid flavored Lays.
Trekking the jungle of Rwanda.
Traveling to the Amazon where (one of us) swam with caimans
Dozens of mountain backpacking trips
A few bike tours as well!
Adventuring in off-the-beaten-path locations and pushing our physical limits will always be the foundation of who we are. We’ve backpacked, rock-climbed, cycled and camped through the wilds of many beautiful places, always sharing our adventures on our blog. But over the past few years, we’ve also enjoyed many on-the-beaten-track locations. Ones that don’t necessarily fit the Backroad name.
When we put a deposit on our boat, we dreamed about the adventures we would have while living aboard. We wanted a new name for our blog that would encompass land and sea adventures, support reimagining our family life, build community, and inspire families to live courageously.
This is Kindred Courage. Kindred represents our values of connection and community, and courage encompasses the mindset necessary for taking this massive family leap. Courage is also the name of our beautiful new floating home. We are excited to offer additional content with our blog’s new name!
Our destination guides will inspire you to travel with your children to cool places worldwide.
Our interviews with locals will deepen your understanding of cultural practices and how to become a thoughtful tourist.
Our conversations with professionals in the fields of surfing, skiing, climbing, home-schooling, eco-conscious travel, health and fitness on the go, and traveling with children will empower you to reimagine what’s possible for your family.
Our new resources will offer financial planning to help you (and us) afford fulfilling experiences and enriching adventures.
Our conversations with adventurous parents will empower you to buckle up and set off on your own journey.
In addition to new and supportive content, we are also committed to depicting the authentic experience of our family stepping outside our habitual boundaries and discovering what exists on the other side. We’ll share what we learn and the courage it takes to learn it. If you want to be “on board” with us, we would be grateful for your support!
You can find us on YouTube and Instagram. We will also send a monthly newsletter about where we’ve been and where we are headed. Click here to subscribe! Peter’s goal is to rack up 30,000 nautical miles, and I want 30,000 followers before he does it!
